How much does otoplasty cost?

A clear breakdown of what otoplasty actually costs in 2026 — what's bundled, what isn't, and how regional pricing changes the bill.

What drives the cost of otoplasty?

Bilateral vs. unilateral

Bilateral $5,000–$8,000. Unilateral (asymmetric ears or post-trauma) $3,500–$5,500.

Technique

Cartilage suturing (Mustardé) is standard. Cartilage scoring or removal techniques exist for more rigid cartilage. Earwell molding (newborns only) is non-surgical.

Adult vs. child

Adult cartilage is more rigid and may require additional cartilage scoring or removal. Children's cartilage molds easier — this is partly why otoplasty is often done at age 5–7.

Is otoplasty covered by insurance?

Cosmetic otoplasty isn't covered. Reconstructive otoplasty (microtia, congenital deformity, post-trauma) often is.
