Breast Lift recovery — week by week

What healing actually looks like — week by week — for breast lift.

Recovery timeline

  1. Day 0
1.5–3 hour outpatient surgery. Surgical bra placed. Drains rare for lift-only.
  2. Days 1–3
Most pain in first 48 hours. Limited arm motion. Sleep on back, slightly elevated.
  3. Week 1
Most return to desk work day 5–7. Sutures buried; no removal needed.
  4. Weeks 2–6
Surgical bra 24/7. No upper-body workouts or lifting >10 lbs.
  5. Months 3–6
Final breast position settles. Scars red, will mature over 12–18 months.
  6. Year 1+
Lift effects gradually relax with gravity, weight changes, and aging — typical longevity 10–15 years before patients consider revision.

Quick reference

Back to work
5–7 days for desk; 2–3 weeks for physical work.

What's normal vs. what to call about

Some swelling, bruising, asymmetry, numbness, and tightness are expected in the first weeks. Sudden severe pain, fever above 101°F, drainage, spreading redness, or one-sided swelling that worsens after improving warrant a same-day call to your surgeon.
